Food for Thought:
Is the population of the club or organization roughly proportionate to the population of the entire school or community that it serves in terms of disability, race, ethnicity, class, sex, gender, sexuality, and religion? If not, consider why the club might not be reaching a diverse population. Ask yourself:
- How does the club advertise itself? How are members recruited?
- What topics, interests, and perspectives are addressed by the club? Could it be that the scope is narrow to the point of being exclusionary?
- Are the needs and interests of the absent groups being met by another club or organization in the community?
